Vaccination recommended for all travelers

Yellow fever vaccination mandatory only for travelers who come from yellowfever infection areas (* or if sojourn > 2 weeks)

Yellow fever vaccination mandatory for all travelers (generally travelers older than 6 to 12 months; in some countries this vaccination is mandatory for every age)

Hepatitis-B-vaccination recommended for travelers in quest of adventure, for longer sojourns (>1 month) or frequent (professional) sojourn, if contact with locals is expected to be close, if there potentially will be dental (medical) treatment, for people who are at risk here, too.

Vaccination against typhus recommended for travels under suboptimal hygienic conditions (e.g. backpack trips off the beaten track, when there has been an outbreak, in catastrophe regions) and for longer sojourns (> 1 month)

Rabies vaccination recommended for travelers in quest of adventure, for longer sojourns (> 1 month) or frequent short sojourns with increased risk (e.g. for professional exposition, for trekkers, cyclists or travels to areas where there is no medical care) in areas where there is an outbreak rabies.

Vaccination against meningococcal meningitis recommended for travels to countries in the sub-Saharan Meningitis Belt in Africa, particularly during the dry season (December to May/June), insofar as the kind of trip [longer sojourn (>1 month)], travel in quest of adventure, close contact with locals or the epidemiological situation entails greater danger

Vaccination against meningococcal meningitis mandatory for pilgrims and seasonal workers in Saudi Arabia (Hajj, Umrah). For epidemiological reasons it is necessary to vaccinate against serogroup A, C and W135 (ACWY-vaccine). The vaccination takes effect 10 days after administration and lasts up to three years.

Vaccination against Japanese encephalitis recommended for persons on risky travels to areas where there are epidemics (South East Asia), particularly for long-term sojourns (> 4 weeks) in rural areas in which there are rice plantations and pig breeding during a time of year when transmission risk is high (monsoon) and where there is insufficient protection against mosquitoes. The vaccination has not been approved in Germany! It can be administered in institutes for tropical medicine and major vaccination centers.
